Cat 5 Music Publishing was founded in 2002 as the first graduate student-run music publishing company in the nation.  While based out of the University of Miami’s top-ranking Music Business program, the company exists as an entirely separate business entity.  We operate as a full service music publishing company, meaning that we work on two levels:  first, we search to find placements in television, movie and commercial spots for the songs that are part of our continually expanding catalogue, and second, we find our clients specific music to suit their needs:  If the song they’re looking for isn’t in our catalogue already, we’ll go out and find it, or we’ll find the right person to custom compose it. 

 The direct access we have to the many fine musicians studying at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music, along with our extended network of talented writer/producers across the nation provide us with the resources needed to find the perfect musical match for your needs.  In addition to these resources, Cat 5 has recently formed a partnership with Peer Music Publishing, the world’s most successful independent music publishing company.  This is exciting news for us, and we are truly looking forward to working with Peer, as both of our companies stand to benefit from the relationship greatly.  The partnership will not only  provide Cat 5 with unprecedented opportunities for placing and finding music, and it will also allow for Peer to have access to the minds and tastes of this prestigious group of music enthusiasts.

You might wonder what makes us different from any other full service music publishing company out there?  First and foremost, our employee demographics will never change:  Cat 5 will always be comprised of a dedicated group of 20-25 year olds, who come from varying geographical and socioeconomic backgrounds.  We are a group of young professionals who represent various tastes and market segments from across the country, and we use these differences to define our companies’ diverse identity.  Even so, while our tastes and backgrounds vary, there are two things that all members of Cat 5 will forever have in common; a passion for music, and the drive to stay on the cutting edge of the industry.

Our musical interests range from hip hop, to rock, to country, from to jazz to electronic, to R&B, and beyond- and our catalogue is a direct reflection of this.  We are constantly searching for the best new talent in all genres to add to our repertoire, striving to break beyond the homogenized options you will find elsewhere in the business, to bring the client a dynamic selection of high quality songs and compositions to choose from.
